How do I tell my children that I'm sick? How do I take care of them when I'm not feeling well? How do I figure out how well my children are dealing with my illness, and how can I help them? How do I keep my relationships with my family members healthy throughout my illness? What happens if my illness should become terminal? These are some of the topics covered in this book, which offers practical advice to families confronted with a parent's serious illness. Using real-life anecdotes collected through interviews with families, the authors offer suggestions for handling the challenges families face during times of crisis. The book provides detailed information about what children of different ages understand about a parent's illness and how they typically react. Do's and Don'ts at the end of each chapter summarize and highlight key points. This book helps parents with a serious illness simplify the complicated process of helping children cope.
